Photography

I’ve never considered myself a “good” photographer, but I don’t consider myself a total amateur, either. I’ve just never had the right equipment at my disposal.

I spent this year’s tax refund (one of the “perks” of being a single parent) on a Canon Rebel T1i DSLR camera. A friend of mine pointed me in the direction of Adorama and their “kits” for digital cameras. I purchased the camera body, lens (standard 18-55 mm), extra battery, 4 GB SD card and a carrying case for less than my total refund. Nice!

My dad is lending me some digital photography books that he and a friend (who is a photography teacher) found very useful. For a non-technical storing brain like mine, I process information better if you tell me what needs to be done to achieve a certain effect; telling me why it works doesn’t help me and it puts me into information overload and I don’t retain anything I was told or read. All I need to be told is poor lighting = higher ISO (right?). I don’t need to know what changing the ISO is doing to my camera. I just need to know what it will do to the final outcome of the picture.

I know it’ll take me a long time to get the hang of this function and that function, and I know a TON of my test-pictures will be of at least three things: my daughter, my beta fish and my coffee mug on my desk at work.

I don’t have any “professional” photo editing software, though I have played around with the software that came with the camera. Adobe Photoshop is something I’ll be saving for.

I’m going to post pictures on here that I’ve taken and edited and would love feedback on them from anyone. Anyone. ANYONE. I don’t care if you’re a pro or an amateur. I just want feedback.
